In Every Rain, Give Thanks.
The rainy days are here and it becomes increasingly difficult to start the day. Getting to work has been like running a marathon race with my legs tied and I have been getting in some minutes late, no thanks to the increasing terrible traffic made worse by the cooperation of pot holes and the flooded roads. Getting a taxi is a herculean task and I have to sometimes pay double the fare. What choice do I have? It’s better than being soaked or getting splashed with mud by impatient Lagos drivers. It gets worse when I sit near a very wet passenger (often market women) whose bodies drip like washed clothes freshly hung in the sun to dry. When I complain, they only apologise ‘E ma binu’, like that would make me dry *rolls eyes*.
Then I get to work to meet an angry boss who arrives few minutes before me in a chaffeur-driven car and expects me to be a ‘superman’. I am barely able to dry up myself as I set down to work with annoying mails and tasks awaiting me. As the day progresses, I sneeze occasionally and try to control the sudden quakes coursing through me. My boss pretends not to notice and asks if I am done with a proposal. Arrrrgh!!! What can I say? I blame the rains.
Okay, enough complaints.
The Bible instructs that in everything we must give thanks. Besides easing us of the stress of worrying, ‘giving thanks’ helps us put on the right attitude and view the world with the eye of faith. We see obstacles as opportunities, mountains as stepping stones and in place of the heavy rain, a rainbow of promise. Plus, it’s a way of telling God ‘Daddy, You are in charge.” Noah was not perturbed by the 40 days rain. In his mind, he already saw many sunshines ahead.
So instead of complaining, I choose to give thanks. When next it comes pouring down, I will not allow the dark clouds weigh me down or determine how my day goes. I will not get angry in the bus or get pissed at my boss. Instead, I will look beyond, see the rainbow and give thanks. And so should you.

As the rained finally subsided and the sun took over, I saw a beautiful rainbow that circled the sun around 12:30 pm today. It was such a beautiful sight. Let’s remember that Abasi is ever near in our times of difficulty.
God’s promise is still real. Abasi keeps to His word.
