Raising Earnest Disciples (John 8:31)

Peace, Be Still!

A story is told in Luke 8:22-26 of Jesus and His disciples crossing a Lake in a ship from one city to another. A storm arose in the lake that troubled not just the lake but also their ship. And not until Jesus rebuked the storm in the lake did they have peace in their ship.

#Some Lessons.

The lake can be compared today to our environment, our nation and our world at large.

With Jesus in the ship, we can compare it to our homes and churches as Christians.

The storm represents all the violence, corruption, and disease ravaging our environment, our nation and our world at large today.  From ebola, to Boko Haram, and even to ISIS including all other unseen terrors.

Today, many Christians think they are immune because they are sailing in a ship with Jesus.  But the unfortunate thing is because we have taken over the sailing of our boat and reduced Jesus to just a passenger in our ship, he has been retired to the background and thus have no choice but sleep and watch the storm rock our boat.

Would you know that as long as you are sailing in that lake that the water will get into your ship and in no time you will be tired and weary of bailing water?   The pressure of the storm is definitely steering our homes and churches and world at large to wrong destinations.  The boisterous wind of ebola, boko haram and isis is weakening our defences and almost causing our ship to capsize. Our daughters are gone missing. Our youths are being indoctrinated with satanic desires and becoming more like blood-thirsty demons. We can’t shake hands anymore, we can’t go to church and not have anti-bomb squads, we can not fellowship in peace anymore, we can’t travel in the air and not be afraid…… The storm is RAGING…. And yet Christians are still trying to paddle their ship all by themselves.  We are running out of ideas on how to secure our ship from the storm because we are failing to realise that the ship is influenced greatly by the condition of the lake. Our homes and churches will not have rest until the lake is at peace. We are more comfortable with erecting edifices and making much noise in the form of praise than doing the one needful thing.

Many are even jumping into the lake now in an attempt to calm the storm and thereby are drowned in the storm because the boisterous wind is more than they can handle.

Hellooooooooooo!!! Where are the Peters of today who will realise our faults and repent and run to Jesus and surrender to His will and obey His command? Where are the men who will bend their knees and Pray_Until_Something_Happens? Those who understand that they have to rebuke the violence of the storm.

Where are those who will cry out and say:

Master, the tempest is raging
The billows are tossing high
The sky is o’er shadowed with blackness
No shelter or help is nigh
Carest Thou not that we perish?
How canst Thou lie asleep
When each moment so madly is threatening
A grave in the angry deep?

Master, with anguish of spirit
I bow in my grief today
The depths of my sad heart are troubled
Oh, waken and save, I pray
Torrents of sin and of anguish
Sweep o’er my sinking soul
And I perish, I perish, dear Master
Oh, hasten and take control

Dearest friends, fellow Chrsitians and believers in Christ, we all need to run to the mercy seat, we need to knock on heaven’s door and ask for divine mercies and intervention because we can not do it on our own. Jesus is just a breath away…. If only we will call out to HIM and ask HIM to save us ere we perish, He will arise and say PEACE BE STILL.  I can hear HIM saying:

The winds and the waves shall obey MY will, peace be still.
Whether the wrath of the storm-tossed sea,
Or demons or men or whatever it be.
No water can swallow the ship where lies
The MASTER of ocean and earth and skies.
They all shall sweetly obey MY will,
Peace be still, peace be still.
They all shall sweetly obey MY will,
PEACE, PEACE be still.

We could use some peace in our world today.  The church, our land and our homes at large will have rest if these storms are rebuked in the name of Jesus. We will be sure to arrive at our destinations on time and in peace with a calm lake than a boisterous lake.

Arise now and pray, do not fold your hands or else help will arise for God’s people from elsewhere. Do not wait till the water floods the ship and scatters your home and church and nation. Call on Jesus.

And to those who do not have Jesus in their ship, well, I pity that ship because it will drown in despair and perish unless you: REALISE your vulnerability and ACCEPT the need for Jesus in your ship;  CONFESS your fault in sailing alone all these years; REPENT of all the wrong turns and calls you’ve made; ASK Jesus to come into your ship as you FORSAKE all other loads and baggages weighing your ship down. Now BELIEVE HE is in, and let HIM control your sail.

Your new song will be:

Master, the terror is over
The elements sweetly rest
Earth’s sun in the calm lake is mirrored
And heaven’s within my breast
Linger, o blessed Redeemer
Leave me alone no more
And with joy I shall make the blest harbor
And rest on the blissful shore

I thank God for every episode of this “In Sunishine and Rain”.

Every episode brings into my systems certain kind(s) of life-soothing relief and at least a reminder that Jesus still works wonders.

Having Jesus in my boat therefore means victory in the battles of life is guaranteed.

Dear Writer, may the anointing and unctions from Christ’s Throne continue to flow upon your life, home and ministry.

    God bless.
